Hello fellow astrofari nuts.
My name is Kevin and I am the new owner of a 96 safari SLX. I bought it from the original owner with 140xxx miles on it for $1600. A couple hundred in repairs later, and the thing drives like brand new (it will fly when you punch it, and I think I've ever heard the tires chirp a few times). unfortunately, the vans not perfect (although for $1600 I didnt expect it to be anywhere near perfect.) besides if its perfect, theres nothing broken to fix.
I plan on replacing the factory interior with a conversion van interior bit by bit (factory interior has definitely seen better days). the prev owner fubar-ed the door panels and dash, never cleaned the interior, and smoked quite a bit. (he did armor everything though, so at least the dirt is shiny)
So far, I have had the van tuned up by a local shop. the prev owner broke the steering column pretty good (its back together, but no horn) and drivers door latch (door wouldn't open or close and would come open randomly if it didnt close right).
he also installed a kenwood head unit and blew out the factory speakers. so I disconnected the rear speakers and put 6 1/2" kenwoods in the doors and 4 inch blaupunkts in the tweeter holes. I'll get around to the rear speakers either this weekend or next weekend, but at least now I have actual music, not bzzt bzzt.
anyways, sorry for the lost post. I'm happy to finally find a forum about astrofaris- people think I'm nuts for loving those goofy S10 van things.

Welcome...and yup, you put 4"ers behind the tweeter hole...didn't know that was possible(never really looked...but I do have 6 1/2 components with the tweet in the tweet hole....10" Bandpass box doubling as a console between the front seats...amps under the front bench)
