Mensch! That's a lot of corrosion on that board!

Yup, although it mostly rubs off.

I have been fiddling with this for a while. Based on the pics I have seen the plug it attached to the board and the whole board plug and all should slide out. Since there was silicone around the edge of the cover, I am thinking that someone tried to seal the box up and may have siliconed in the plug part so well that getting it out may be a real struggle. (It has been so far and I have not budged it)

correct.

Mine didn't take much force at all. the po could have crushed the tabs together to make it tighter. Also possibly so corroded that it's jamming the connectors. :-k

At this point based on the corrosion there you may be better off hitting up a jy and grabbing another board then just giving that one all you've got. The jy one is to replace that one after it breaks when you giver all you've got :D

Even though the corrosion may appear to rub off, it has gotten too deep to salvage.

The JY route might be the best option. It means waiting until Monday, as I will likely need wipers and don't want to toast the board without a replacement.

Checking car-parts.com, there are lots of wiper motors, but no one lists motor control boards. Motors are $50 across the board no matter what the quality or what JY.

I also checked with the local GM dealer. This was not a recall (according to his computer) it was some other thing which expired in 2004. So I will have to fix it myself or shell out for someone else to do it.

I was thinking removing the whole motor might give me some more leverage to get out the board. Am I correct that to unhook the motor from the armature that controls the actual wiper arms it done by prying the place it attached toward the back of the van?

mine was bolted on. then it just slid off.

I would recommend not removing it unless you must tho. it's a pain to get aligned again

That recall information is basically what they told me at the dealership. Notice the expiry is March 31, 2004, that means my vehicle is outside the window both in how old it is, and that the expiry date has passed. Oh well.

So by aligning it, I assume you mean getting it to stop at the bottom of the window right?

Jim when you go to J/Y you want to take a torx driver the same size as what is on your pastic cowling.Pulling that will give you more room to get the nut off and put it back on to the slot of the motor and arms.Once you have it back together, leave the cowling loose so if you have to make any ajustments it is easier. And ya-there are a ton of those torx screws. ](*,)

Went to the JY $35 got a whole wiper motor, although all I needed from it was the control board. I swapped the boards, and everything is working great. On top of that I have a spare motor now sans control board unless I can fix it. I did a little checking on the old one and tried re-soldering it, but that did nothing to fix the problem. My guess is one of the connections underneath the plug has rusted through and I would have to disassemble the entire board. Also, there is one trace that is damaged and I would need to jumper over that as well. I may do that some cold winters night, but for now it is good to have working wipers again. I didn't seal up the housing yet, but I hope to do that when I can get the van in the garage and be a little warm doing so.

As you can see, it is IMPERATIVE to seal the unit.

The thing is Squidy, it was sealed, quite well actually, but for one place apparently where a small amount of water got in somewhere along the line and couldn't get out because of the seal. I'm hoping I can do a better job than whoever did it before, but need a warmer setting to do it. There is a mall that we shop at occasionally that has heated indoor parking. Maybe we will go there, and I will seal stuff up then.
