Undercarriage Protection for winter

I forget what this stuff is called but I know they advertise it at body shops alot, some kind of chemical you get sprayed on your undercarriage once a year before the winter to prevent all the road salt from rusting up your truck. I've heard some people saying that it's great and also that you don't need it, does anyone do this for their vans? Just wanna make sure my van wont rust to pieces this winter.

Rust? From sugar? Not hardly.

We use a spray slurry made from sugar beet refuse. No rust and it works nicely at keeping the streets clean.

People use to spray the underside and interior panels etc with tranny fluid.....

We would take roofing tar and water it down with paint thinner. Not quite as clean as sugar beet refuse though.

i usually just hit up one of the dripless oil spraying shops. works all right.

One thing i have seen done and the PO did to my van before I got it was get a spray on bedliner sprayed into the wheel wells and on the exposed sheet metal on the bottom of the van. I'm betting that was a real PITA but seems to work well. To bad they didn't drop the cladding over the rockers and do there too. Stupid rocker rot.

I just did exactly that - product I used was good old Tremclad Flat Black rust paint after a good wire brushing in the drill and a good clean - then I used a undercoating product - "Rust Check Black Undercoating" I bought it at Wal-Mart actually - made in Canada product - its a petroleum product - as I could smell when applying look at my other post Subframe R&R - stays a little flexible like truck box coating
