does anyone know how much oil I need to put in a new ac compressor for a 2001 gmc safari

I found the answer myself it takes 8 ounces if anyone needs to know in the future

That is alot of oil just for the compressor? or is that the amount for the whole system, In which case don`t put it all in the compressor.

I do alot of auto a/c work, and I will check those figures tomorrow at my work. PM me tomorrow so that I don`t forget.

thanks I was thinking of still pouring out the old oil into a measuring cup and adding that amount back into the new one

Yeah, that would be ok, or just add 3 ounces of the correct weight of pag oil into the compressor. Don't forget to rotate the clutch hub back and forth 10 times to circulate the oil around all the internal moving parts. The reciever dryer should also be replaced at the same time as a compressor.

And replace the orfice tube. It's a general practice to void the warranty if the orfice tube is not replaced. Does the van have rear air? If it does add another 2 ozs.

thanks guys I got it all put together today but now I am having an issue with the clutch wont engage with the ac on. I have tested the relays and jumpered the compressor to the battery and it works but only when I jumper it. Could the climate control be causing it not to run? it is about 50 degrees here

If I remember right there are two pressure switches. One on the back side of the compressor and one close to the drier. Use your jumper on the one next to the drier. Check to make sure there is a switch on the back side of the compressor. My new (Delphi) compressor did not come with one. There was a plug in that location.
