Drivers side power window motor

Post by afsigma21 »

Anyone ever replace this? I am going to tackle this in the next week or so. Looks fairly easy, but I have not pulled the bad one out yet.

Any hints?

I will document procedure for future.

I have had to do this for a long time. I keep putting it off because it works sometimes, but I know what will happen is when it is pouring rain it won't go up, so I should do it soon. My difficulty is finding a motor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg shipped to Canada as all the parts suppliers here charge more than I am willing to pay unless the motor gives out completely.

I thought I had to once. Bought a working replacement from a junk yard, pulled the door card, checked stuff with a multimeter just in case and found that the wires running between the body and door had fractured. Ended up running some fresh wire and had everything working perfect again.

I bought a new one from ebay a few years back for maybe around $25. Replacing it was far easier than I thought it would be. Don't fret to do it. Mine's been working great again ever since.

I got the part cheap. New from Rockauto for $13.78 plus $6 shipping. I had a bad switch too, another $30.

I am going to tackle it as soon as the parts come in.

Wow! I didn't see one that inexpensive at Rockauto. I just looked, and don't see one listed at that price. Do you have a product number.

I had to hit a drop down and get it MFG Closeout (30 day warranty) to get the lower price.

That shows up for more than $21.76 for me. Not a bad price but shipping to Canada more than doubles the price and that would not include whatever brokerage costs add when in comes over the border UPS. Oh well. I will keep searching.

Just take your time and gently remove the inner door panel to avoid breaking any of the clips that hold it in place.
You may find you need to drill two over sized holes on the inner door sheetmetal to adequately get at two of the small bolts that mount the motor. I recommend using some locktite on the replacement bolts for the motor.
I had read that it was a good idea to duct tape the glass over the top of the door to prevent it from sliding down. I don't know that this is potential problem, but I did it anyway. I had no problems.

Where did you find a $36 dollar motor in Canada?

Even rebuilt that is a good price. I have not found any rebuilt ones around, but new here I have not found anything less that $70.

Thanks. I talked to Ideal, and they were very expensive. I will give TADD APC a call. Do you know any place in London who I can contact as I am in London more often than Stratford?
