Re: Something bent in a YEEHAW trip to the swamp
Ah Ha! over torqued makes sense. I just looked it up and I'll be damned it is 100lbs. All this time I have been doing it wrong. I know the cars have smaller studs and I torqued them to 95lbs. I don't know where I got 120 for the van from. The larger truck studs I have torqued to 140. Where I work al...

Re: Something bent in a YEEHAW trip to the swamp
I suppose I could continue the story about the swamp trip. It started out we were just going to ride the trail, then we came to a mud hole just before a small hill. I said "I am not going to make it through there then uphill." My buddy said "yes you can I did it in my s10 with bald ti...

Something bent in a YEEHAW trip to the swamp
So heres the deal, Story first (short version) went out to the swamp and sunk the van... Got the van out and did the YEEHAW out of the ditch when something went wrong. So the problem is that the idler arms are touching the frame occasionally. Also the drag link contacts the crankshaft pulley occasio...

Its all good... They both have owned astro/safari's. As long as they continue to run this site I'll be happy. The SPB is what inspired me to build mine, haven't been happier. Jacking the thread... I apologize. Have a happy Astro Retirement Zam.

Re: Strange Vibration
So you don't have ice or snow built up in the wheels. All your steering and suspension parts are tight.
Time to inspect your tires could have a broken belt inside causing the vibration.
How about your U-joints? Front axle shaft bad?

Re: Slider turned into hinged door?
Suicide door would work the best. I think the one I am remembering was suicide. I too am not good with body work. I wish I would have saved it when I saw it but at the time I didn't need it.

Re: Slider turned into hinged door?
The solution is a lot simpler. I had the same problem when I put the 8" wheels on the "Smilievan". I removed the center of the right rear wheel and moved it 1 1/2" to give me the clearance I needed. \:D/ Not really an option for me as I have aluminum wheels. Also then I would no...

Re: Slider turned into hinged door?
thanks for the replies but it wasn't your gull wing door. Although I like the idea I would not have enough room most the time to open it. The one I am thinking of was hinged on one side I can't remember which side. And no I certainly don't need it welded shut LOL. Right now I can only open it half w...

Re: Sliding door (large pics)
Check the rollers that ride in the tracks. That pin wear has something to do with it also I would say. Won't take much play in the hinge for the door to drop down. I had to wrestle mine around to get it to work right as the previous owners told me their kids were hanging on it and bent it.

Re: 2000 AWD stutters, loses power, shifts poorly
I've had good luck with Standard in the past, but some cars are more finicky about ignition parts than others... These vans are finicky, I strongly believe in using AC Delco ignition parts, and also fuel pumps. 96 and up vans have bad design for a distributor cap makes it very easy to have cross ar...
