Lol Augie, I liked the astro when I saw them in '95.
Warmed up to the 1st generation when I decided to do the motor swap and talked with Stan. DRZ or on this site HPbyStan. He posted about the green LS he did, and then sold, spoke of having done seven swaps like it was an everyday thing.
He and many others in these forums were a huge help. Can't tell you how many times I referenced six's thread for minutia you could find nowhere else in photos.

Re: Allow me to introduce The Van
I was working undercar (an independent shop similar to Midas, Meineke) at the onset of the mini-van craze. Definitely a useful class of vehicle, but I didn't see anything special about the platform(s)...until my first Astro rolled in for basic maintenance.
"Hey Jim, check out this Astro, there a WHOLE TRUCK under here."

Re: Allow me to introduce The Van
The feature I liked most about The Van, just as we got home... a 'std' build w/ OEM roof rack will fit in a std. garage / opener hgt. w/ clearance.
Our '92 has the tightest turn radius of any vehicle we've owned ( VWs were the exception, but not by much ).
Back seat, while weighing 5,870 lbs, "pops right out". I use a creeper alone.
Parts & support plentiful, but still wishing for more.
