Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
Re: Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
Again the slightly smaller tires you have over them helps but biggest thing is where our power band and those 4.11s you have help big time.
I have often laughed at myself and worried in the past off-roading in the mountain about my gas. These 4.3L V6 with the higher gears are awesome!
Past week up hwy99 not a problem.
T.Low dude we need to get some more folks and just ham it out somewhere. Man me thinks I need to find a new job that allows me to have more time off to play :p Or just get older faster to retire ... :-k

Negative.
More like for the parts only.
Go to the tranny section - I have a post there. Dean and a few folks chimed in with opinions and cost which I verified and I was at the same cost. Therefore for me going to 4.11s is a dream but unrealistic as I rather spend the money on a something to pump the overall performance up ... aka supercharger? but not extreme I dont want to get into changing fuel lines / pump the works. I have to keep dreaming :(

Wow, 20 mpg is impressive. And your rig looks good.

Re: Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
I've been getting 19-20 MPG mixed driving on my 'stro. I have the 4" lift and big BFG ATs. I also use the Hypertech Energy Max to tell the computer what tire size I have, and it is supposed to improve my mileage too.

Re: Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
YIKES, I'm so confused. See my sig for my set-up. I went the other way with gearing trying to get the rpm down when on the highway. I can't say I lost much. The best I ever get is 15 city and 20 highway if I'm very, very careful.
I absolutely love the BFG appearance and would hate to go back to passenger tires. Although it's been a loooonnnnngggg time since I saw a tank get 400 miles!
BTW, if anyone wants a cost calculator, email me and I'll forward it to you. It's an easy computer calculator that tells you if you spend this much on a mod, it will take this amount of time to pay for itself. I use it all the time.

Re: Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
WVKayaker,
Some other things could be adding to my gas mileage...such as the fact that I do run my BFG's at the max rated pressure and they have nitrogen in them. I am also running full synthetic fluids in my van (AMSOil)...except for the Autotrak II in the transfer case. I still have the stock differentials in there, I never changed them out when I bought the big tires. But, that's okay with me beacue I drive from the U.P. of Michigan to Joliet IL and back every week.

Re: Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
Currently making that drive for work. Usually come down sunday night, then head home friday when work is finished. Pretty soon I will be moving to and working in Missouri though. But for now I sleep in me wonderful van all week long! I will have to post some pics of the bed I made and put in there. It works really well, and still gives me use of the front bench when I want to use it. Great storage space as well.

Re: Which is worse? The Lift or the Tires?
Would be great if you could post pics of your bed setup! T-Low has a cool setup, but I need to put in a middle bench seat for my kids.Currently middle area has buckets(LT version).I want to put a middle bench, with a bed like T-Lows.But it needs to fold up on itself behind the bench seat.If any of this makes sense, barely does to me! Post up some details. Thanks!betz wrote:Currently making that drive for work. Usually come down sunday night, then head home friday when work is finished.
