Getting back on topic though... If you (pengyou) are serious about putting a hightop on your van, I'd just find one in a junkyard and figure out how it was originally mounted and duplicate it. I'm guessing structural integrity isn't affected much. Now if you try and convert a hightop into something that opens even further, you might run into problems.

Well...for posterior's sake...I should say that I appreciate all of - well almost all of ;) - your comments. I understand the idea about cutting and welding but I do not have these skills. If I make a mistake trying there there is no amount of duct tape that is going to help me. I think I will go back to the drawing board for a while on this and see what comes up.

Peng, its been over half a year. Did you take a welding class last winter? If you did, you know how to weld now, don't you.
