I must have really made the Astro van gods mad....

Post by justice »

Its been raining a lot here...on my way home last night I was wondering why my windows were not defrosting...ahh...thats why, my blowers not working...dammit. This is my 92 which is still having the strange SES light issues. Annnnnd...last week, someone shot out 2 of my windows. Did they shoot out ones that were easy to replace? No...they shot out 2 of the conversion windows that none of the auto glass companies carry. Estimates running approx $400 to get the window fixed...

I get home, my wife says the heater in her 95 is not working and it has a coolant leak. Take it to the shop, waterpump, heater hoses, thermostat, intake manifold gasket and coolant...$1500

This could not have happened at the worst time as I have been scrathing money together to pay my taxes...now this...

Justice, post a pic of that van. I don't think I've seen it. I looked for it on the site, and can't find it. Depending on what the windows look like I may have a line on where to get new ones.

Hey Trybe, its this van

Image

the glass i need is the large piece on the back window and the small piece on the bottom right.

I did not make it to the yard today...so no luck there so far.

oh, and I fixed the blower motor today...and then discovered a transmission leak.. ](*,)

Total on wifes van was just under $1600, water pump, heater hoses, radiator cap, intake manifold gasket, valve cover gaskets, thermostat and thermostat housing, upper radiator hose and a flush and fill on the rad...

Thanks, i just emailed them.

Well what was the outcome of those windows? Did you get them from Discount van and truck, or elsewhere?
Well, after emailing around, Discount Van and Truck needed to know the mfg of the windows that I had, and I would have had to dismantle the interior to find out (no markings on the outside of the windows). I tried a few more glass places with no luck and even scoured a bunch of salvage yards to see if I could find a van with similar windows. (could not find a single conversion Astro in the yards)

I ended up going back to one of the glass places that I had spoken to earlier and had them put plexi-glass in, in place ofthe missing windows. They had plexi in stock that matched the tint color almost perfectly and it looks good. You can't tell its plexi unless you get close and tap on it. Best part, $125 installed.
