blower speeds
i know this is the wrong place to post this but this the most popular place!! okay my a/c heater blower is acting up okay my high speed works perfect but my other 3 speeds don't like when i select one of the other 3 speeds the blower won't come on right away but after a little bit it will come on then shut off again now i have replaced the blower resistor pack it does the same thing so what can it be? also back in the summer time my high was not working i replaced the high speed relay it worked fine just like my other 3 speeds worked too but now it is the opposite i believe the blower is working fine cause it works great on high speed it is not overheat and shutting down cause when it does not work on the 3 other speeds the blower is cool to the touch i checked at the blower for power when i select the 3 lowwer speeds and it is not receiving power.

Re: blower speeds
My guess would be the switch. The contacts could be burned or there may be some corrosion.

Re: blower speeds
zombie{[six]} what do you mean by "gone through 3 switches"? is that only 3 speeds work? if so and your high speed don't work then i would try to replace the high speed fan relay which is on the firewall next to the fuel pump relay.

Re: blower speeds
92astro...I believe you need a new switch as Smiliesafari suggested.
zombie...replace the resistor pack as it controls all speeds except high.

Re: blower speeds
sorry to resurect a post from last year but at least the info will all be in one place.
my 93 is doing this same thing. only 3 & 4 fan speeds work, high and one down from high. it seems that there are actually 4 speed settings on my 93, 1 and 2 (the two low speeds) do nothing.
what was the outcome for you guys.. was it the switch or the blower resistor on your older vans?

Re: blower speeds
So far, all of you are swing and a miss. The problem lies in the blower motor itself, a relatively inexpensive fix. The oilite bearings in the motor have dried out. The fix takes about 30 minutes and a barley pop, plus a few skinned knuckles and a few choice words.

Re: blower speeds
Well, it was posted on the <rule6b> website, but since we don't need no stinkin' Rule 6b...
(This works on ALL years)
You'll need:
1 -- sharp knife (for removal of conformal cover on later years)
1 -- 10mm socket
1 -- 7mm socket
1 -- 8mm socket
1 -- 1/4" ratchet with a 6" extension
1 -- Filister screw driver
2 -- CLEAN 1 gal milk jugs
TBD -- Barley Pop
AND
1 -- new blower moter
1 -- blower wheel (we call it a squirrel cage fan)
1. Remove both overflow tank and washer tank. Empty contents into separate jugs. Now is a good time to clean out the overflow tank.
2. Unplug wire to ground lug at the 2:00 o'clock position AND the power cord.
3. (on later models) CAREFULLY cut the conformal coating around the motor on the dotted line.
4. Remove the hex-headed screws surrounding the blower motor. DO NOT LOSE THE GROUNDING LUG!
5. CAREFULLY remove the blower motor and blower wheel. The factory wheel is plastic. The replacement wheel is metal.
6. Install motor and wheel.
7. Reinstall screws and grounding lug.
8. Plug in motor and ground.
8a. Check motor for proper operation.
9. Replace overflow and washer tanks and refill.
10. Close hood.
11. Clean up and replace tools.
12. Consume barley pop and pat self on back.

Re: blower speeds
thanks capt. if I'm tearing into this soon, I might as well try to resolve the other problem.
in a previous thread I posted:
where's this vacuum line selector located?
in a previous thread I posted:
your reply was:mine come out of the various vents... WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT!~
i choose floor and it comes out of the dash and vents (when it feels like it it will start shooting out the floor), i choose vents and it comes out of the dash and vents, i choose dash and it comes out the dash and vents.. LOL...
I was thinking about this and it's seemed to have cooperated the last month or more... until yesterday, i noticed it's not coming out of the floor again, only dash or vents. sounds to me like yet another vacuum problem??Methinks your vacuum line selector is "miswired."
where's this vacuum line selector located?

Pull out the Environmental Control panel. You can't help but see it.
