Are those 4" towers compatible with the longer 2nd gen steering linkages, or do you still have extend it?
Any other extensions/modifications necessary?

The 4" towers require a longer steering shaft. Lockdoc did extend his.

My understanding is you can go 2".Not a big deal really. You can buy one from Overlands or there was a member named "Thechopfather" that I kind of remember he used a steering shaft from a full size van,but honestly I don't remember the yr it was.

Yepper I found it and this is a quote from his post:

"It was out of a newer savanna van you know those full size vans with the tails up high".

Hmm, interesting thread. Thanks for the link. They are talking about having extra play in the shaft, but there shouldn't be much movement between the subframe and body, so shouldn't the distance from steering box to column remain constant?

Also Gary I have a later model van, and I think the steering linkage is longer than on the earlier ones. I have a feeling it might go further than 2". $140 + tax + shipping for the aftermarket is more than I want to spend. I've never even seen my steering box. Is it easy to get to?

I'm not sure on the length of the steering shaft but it's not surprising you've never seen you steering gear box it's under the lower fan shroud and not really visible even from under the vehicle

It's quite possible that I've stared right at it before, but knowing what you're looking at is a different story. :dunce:

I didnt read the whole thread, so if I missed something, sorry.

But why go through all the work and time for 2inchs? Just buy a lift from Overlands. Quick and easy.
