"Moody" parking light switch.

Post by westcoastchopstick »

Okay, here's a pickle for the electrical gurus in here. I'll start from the beginning. With some background info. I do have a set of aftermarket foglamps hooked up to my van. I have the switch located just underneath the driver side vent, the foglights will only come on if my parking lights are activated. Like any other vehicle. So, this winter, and now summer, I've had weird activity with the parking light switch.

Meaning, when I want to turn it on, say during rain or fog, the parking lamps/dash lamps do not come on immediately. Meaning, if I keep the switch on, the lights will eventually come on after 2-10 minutes (corner lights, dash lights, fog lamp lights if turned on). Now, if it was a bad connection, technically, those lights should flicker. But they don't. Once they come on....they stay on, and the switch works like magic. But until they come on, I can flick that switch back and forth and nothing happens.

So, I took the dash off, looked at the switch, wires, no pinched connections. Looked fine. Put the dash back on...voila, lights work fine. Within 24 hrs, we're back to square one. The switch is, I guess, for lack of a better term, delayed. Its almost like the juice is taking its time getting to the lights. I've never heard of "slow" power (other than my engine lol)

Any ideas?

My first thought....

The zero $ approach is to dis-assemble the light switch and clean it and lube it and then re-assemble.
I was told getting my beauty sleep was a waste of time.
