vibration issues :(

Post by Jboy2 »

Well, recently the u joint went out on me, started to make a grinding noise.
Replaced the joint and then the truck started to have a vibration at 45 kms and up and saw that the shaft had a small dent.
Got another shaft and now it vibrates at 95 kms + ](*,) ](*,)

What should I start looking at to see what it could be.

Thanks

well, its 20 years old and has hundreds of thousands of kilometers on it.
I would say that a brand new ride will result from a lot of brand new parts.
there are so many things that can give a vibe or a wobble or weird sound.
I would look strongly at the exhaust pipes and see how well they are hanging?
These 4.3 are quivering little buggers!!
Then I would look at the front end parts like idlers, tierods and links. see if any move too much.
The 10 bolt axles dont last forever and can get worn out and make noise/vibe.
The springs get worn and saggy, so do front coils or torsion bars.
The list is endless, but the exhaust and the front end is where I would be looking if the driveshaft seems well enough.
Sitting at the front makes everything feel like its behind you, so front end wobbles can be deceptive.
Really though, it could be a bad balanced wheel or a bad bushing on a spring or an a arm or just about anything.
They can be hard to track down is my point, I've been there...

Good luck.

today I was following a dodge caravan, a pretty new one. (ick)
Anyways I could see the rear axle bouncing up n down about half an inch, steadily.
I saw that the tire had a tiny bump on it.
I didn't look like it affected the ride at all cuz the suspension covered it up pretty good, but i couldn't help but wonder if the driver couldn't notice that vibration?
Sometimes a saggy spring and an unbalanced tire can go a bit nuts at the right speed.

Well, i found out what the problem is,
Turns out that one of the small tabs on the pinion yoke is worn, so the u joint is able to move abit.
I welded in a peice of metal to make them the same size.... and no vibration!!!! :D

So now im looking for a pinion yoke.

Anyone have one for sale? or know a good place to get one?
i checked rock auto, but they didn't show any :(

Thanks!
