my DRL's haven't worked since i got the 99 and I've been told to check the connections on the module. which, i believe is in the drivers door pillar? (which pillar) if that's the case, anyone have a pic or two or where exactly .. and/or instructions on how to actually get to said module?
on my 94 the DRL's worked when I got the van. I removed the fuse to run only the parking lights. a month later I installed the H4 conversions. a couple of mths ago I reinstalled the fuse to run the DRL's and it blew. I think it was a 10amp.
should I up it to a 15amp? ... or look for some other problem?
remember... my headlights are now the H4 bulbs, not sealed beams. they shouldn't pull much more .. but do they, over the sealed beams?
the headlights and highbeams with 100% without issues.
thanks!
Rob

Rob, If the 10 amp blew I would do a little investigation as to why it now blows, before you up the fuse to a 15a
You can probably gey away with using the 15a but do to the nature of these spindly little gauge that gm uses you don't wanna let too much juice through the wires. When you converted over to the H4 bulbs did you get the hollowed lenses and use the old connectors or was this a whole new kit with new connectors etc, what wattage are your H4 bulbs??
The standard 55 watt bulbs pull approx 4.5 amps

they are the hollowed lenses with the seal and clips on the back. the H4 plugs right into the stock plug. no adapter/harness needed. the wattage on the H4's are 55/65 L/H
The thing that gets me that the headlight fuse is fine, only the DRL one popped.
thanks Keith

DRL module is located in the dash behind the headlight switch / vent between the driver window and gauge cluster. Accessible through the removed vent I think. I have also accessed it in my 94 by removing the gauge cluster. At the junk yard they are usually just hanging there in the open dash I think they are different for different years - there's a number printed on them. The module itself is a small circuit board, about 1" x 2", inside a plastic box, snap lid, wrapped in a foam strip. Remove it carefully from the box with needle nose pliers. I have a few in my spare parts collection, but never needed one. $5 from junk yard, $100 from GM, and not returnable.
I had various problems with my DRL, but the module, or adjacent wiring was never the problem. It was a variety of other things - burned out bulb, fuse, melted connection on ground wire on the headlight harness (always the passenger side - it must carry the current for both sides).
I tried Bosch H4 lamps with bulbs, boots, etc, but had problems. I tried BRIGHT 90w bulbs with relays (wired myself, probably messed it up). Nothing but a nuisance. Eventually went back to stock wiring, and I found a sealed lamp, bright white light, with low watts (45 w I think) from Partsource. Nice light, no problems. If you want more details, let me know.

thanks del.. turned out that upping to a 15amp resolved the problem on the 94. i've been so busy i never got back to give an update. now the 94 is gone.
i still haven't located the DRL module on the 99 ...
... anyone... ?
how do i test and what do i look for (after i locate it of course)

Rob,
The DRL diode is located in the driver side 'B' plillar above the seatbelt retractor. This is a large black finned aluminum assy with a 2 wire connector going into it. This is what usually goes bad on this systems. To check the function of it, check for power on both terminals. If you have power on one, but not the other, the diode is faulty.
