Looking for chrome hubs
Looking for chrome hubs
Just bought my "95 a few weeks ago, and already the kids are teasing me about owning a soccermobile, so the first thing I thought I would do to man it up is work on the wheels. I'm looking to paint the wheels black and put on the chrome hubs I see so many of you have done. I found a set on eBay for $25.00 each, but that seems a bit high for the condition they are in. Can anyone tell what I should expect to pay?
I've looked on Craigslist, but haven't hit the wrecking yards yet. If you have a set you want to sell................?

Re: Looking for chrome hubs
When I got my 05, I needed to do something with the wheels so I went with black and also wanted chrome centers. Found a set on ebay for a buck a piece...they wanted $12.99 shipping each!
Not happening, so I just left the stock grey ones on. Throw up a pic of what centers and wheels you have and what you are looking for.

Re: Looking for chrome hubs
Looks like I'll be calling some local wrecking yards, cause I ain't paying $60.00 apiece for them. The one's I'm looking for are rounded rather than flat in the center.... Thanks

I don't have a pic as of this posting but I will get one- I kept my wheels chrome and added center caps from 80's chevy 2 wheel drive pickup truck painted gun metal gray. I will take a pic later today and upload.

Hey, Thanks Mark.
The one's I want are the same as Peters ZZ in the Archive but I don't think they are stock Astro caps. I seen them on eBay and get the impression they are off a Chevy p/u or Caprice. Maybe Pete can chime in if he is still on the forum. I want to buy a lift kit from Overland but have to sell one of my other rigs for $$$ before I can get into all of that. For now I'll work on the wheels and start doing a little body work.

Re: Looking for chrome hubs
Thanks for the offer akforceten. I see the ones on your van look flat on top. The ones I'm looking for have more of a bullet shape. I'll head down to the Pick & Puke this weekend and see what I can dig up... ( What do you have in mind for yours ? )

Re: Looking for chrome hubs
After I bought the van, I was considering giving it a new paint job, as I'm not fond of the dark met. maroon, but the thought of painting the door jambs and engine compartment doesn't thrill me, so I'm going to do spot repairs on the small dents and re- clear coat the whole thing. That being said, I don't think the black, off road look will stand out so such on a dark color as it does on lighter colored vans.
Now I'm thinking alloy or chrome wheels with the bullet centers to give a little bling . In the end, it will probably what ever I can find and afford!

Re: Looking for chrome hubs
If you can do it yourself: I painted my S-10 with thinned down rustoleum . My S-10 is a 1993 4x4 truck and I bought it for 500.00 bucks then tore the rusted fleetside bed off and bought a 1998 step side bed for 200.00 and installed a 2 inch body lift. replaced a fender , did body work and sanded and painted it for approx. 100.00 dollars. Now my Safari is my baby so after the custom work is finished I will buy a paint kit from Summit and repaint it. The truck is a truck and is used as such but my Safari is a project.

Re: Looking for chrome hubs
Right on Mark. I've been doing my own body work and paint for many years and have saved thousands by doing so. The painting is the easy part, it's the prep work I hate. Right now I'm just rubbing out the old finish with a power buffer for a better shine and will re-paint when time permits.
