Gas leaking

Post by Rileysowner »

I noticed a puddle under the drivers side of the van this morning. It turns out that gas is leaking at where the gas fill tube attaches to the tank. I just filled up yesterday, so it was full. If there anything I can do other than not fill the tank all the way. I don't have much time today, and will be taking the van from Ontario to Harrisburg PA on Monday.

If it's just the clamp coming loose then a little tightening should fix it. Otherwise you might have to replace the hose that connects the filler to the tank. That's not something to mess around with. You should fix it before your trip.

I will try tightening the clamp. What is involved with replacing the tube?

It looks like the leak was around hose from the filler to the tank. I will tighten the clamp and see if that helps.

Things have dried up for the most part. It is sort of nice that gasoline evaporates so quickly. The filler tube, while rusty looks sound. The hose from it to the tank looks good as well, so I tightened the clamp and we will see if anything else comes out. I may need to fill it up again to find out. Since gas was a good price I topped up the tank as much as I could, so there was likely some gas sitting in that hose from the tank to the fill tube. Just in case I checked around and a wrecker near by has a fill tube. Hopefully this will do it.
