The new Vortec heads aren't that much money for a set.The small runner is the one I was thinking about that I said was just about right for your use.

Re: can someone recomend a decent cam for a 350 TBI engine
OK I still need a cam, this is what I have in the works so far: 1995 5.7
1997 5.7 vortec heads
I will be using this intake manifold http://www.jegs.com/i/GM+Performance/80 ... 2/10002/-1
and I wish to see if these may be usable for this project http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-9 ... /?rtype=10
I do not want to use a roller cam as the added cost to swap it over does not sound feasible to me. I mean what are the advantages to go roller?

Recently bought a 1989 Astro RS from Florida. Replaced stock engine witha 1997 5.7 vortec with TBI and replaced transmission with rebuilt 700R4 with mild shift kit.

The intake link took me to a engine for sale.
It would be a major mistake not to use a roller. Your block has the holes drilled and tap to the roller retainers. The parts to go roller over a flat tappet are not that expensive. Three things come to mind why to go roller. The cam profiles are miles ahead of the flat tappet where the lifts are faster and bigger, the lobe centers are tons better,no break-in failures with rollers(guys don't realize the oil additive isn't just for the 20 minutes at 2500 rpm during the critical break-in time, but for the life of the engine at every oil change. We have seen flat tappet cams fail long after the break-in.),easier tuneablility for EFI systems. You want a lobe center in the range of 112.Yeah I know the cam I suggested is a 108,but I know Bill got a great tune on it. Lately most machine shops are turning down jobs that are not rollers.
The stock truck Vortec's don't or never will flow like the ones I suggested. ALL the power is made on the cam and kit and the top haft. That is where the money needs to be spent.

Mark I looked that that. Right now I am alittle ticked off because I have dial-up and I had to reconnect in the middle of a strong post I was haft way through which meant I had to re-log in loosing everything I posted. This has happened to me many times before on this forum. So I'll try to post later today and go and cool off to gather my thoughts again.

Re: can someone recomend a decent cam for a 350 TBI engine
the 350 I was going to rebuild is junk, when I pulled the heads one of the valves was broke off into the cylinder bore and the cylinder is destroyed. Now my truck seems to have developed a wiring problem within the ignition so I am without a vehicle. So I may have to pulled the 4.3 from the truck and put it into the Astro just to have a vehicle for winter. Maybe next summer I will be able to pick up another V8 and swap it in. Thank You for all your advise, I did copy all of it and printed it for future use. Mark

I don't normally suggest a .060 bore because that means no rebuilds after that. I am not sure how the larger bore would effect the Calli emissions testing either. I would guess it wouldn't pass. My point here is if it would clean up at .060.
