New to the forum here but not too Safari's and ASTRO's. I just yesterday bought #4 and I have been driving them for past 15 years. I have owned a 92 Cargo, a 98 SL and a 97 ASTRO LT. The newest is my best yet a 2004 SAFARI SLT AWD. One owner from new with 119,000km showing and a complete service history from new! First owner was an elderly gentlemen who obviously loved this van and the overall condition is as near new as an 8 year old used truck can be.
Just need some snow now so I can see how much fun the AWD will be compared to 2wd. I used to put 500lbs of patio blocks in my 98 to make it more capable but those days are over I guess. My last unit was the 7 ASTRO and it was the best in the snow of the others due to the weight of the leather interior. Man those leather seats are heavy! It was a beautiful truck with only 85,000km when I bought it last year but unfortunately I was T boned in traffic by a guy running a red light and it was a total write off.
I had been looking for a VW SYNCRO as an adventure van but who knows maybe I will start tricking out the SAFARI and have something I can actually buy parts for locally. I also have a 1962 VW Bus , an 81 VW WESTFALIA as well as a 2008 Chev EQUINOX AWD but those dont count on here so won't be mentioned again. =D>
As an added bonus the new SAFARI also came with a 2 volume set of GM factory service manuals which may prove handy at some point.
