The box under the floor near the fuel tank - purpose ?

Hi everybody and Happy New Year,
My AWD Astro 2000 has a strange box mounted under the floor in front of the fuel tank. It has two rigid lines attached and a rubber hose which seems to start and end here. I have no idea what is it for, but it looks like it was professionally (factory?) fixed.
I have attached photos so if someone could have a look and give the explanation, I would appreciate.

They are factory installed. I don't know exactly what they are called but I thing they are for collecting and burning gas fumes from the tank. Part of the emissions systems.

I believe the proper name is purge canister.
