Need help. 87 g20 runs on starting fluid only.

87 g20 tbi doesnt run unless starting fluid is being sprayed into it. New fuel pump and relay new spark module new distributor. Fuel pump doesnt prime and relay doesnt click. Oil pressure is good. Fuel pump fuse is okay. Where is the problem lays in?

Is the Fuel filter clogged?

Fuel pump does not turn on. Tried to hot wire fp relay without any progress.

My Haynes manual is in the garage but I thought the fuel relay was energized about five seconds after starting the engine via the oil pressure switch. If I get a chance I will try to find the circuit for powering the pump when starting. Since you know where the fuse is located, take a meter or basic circuit tester (probe with a light) and check both sides of the fuse. If no power there, might be corrosion in he fuse box itself. If power present, check for good grounds. If grounds and power good, go down the line with the circuit tester and see where the power stops.

I hate chasing electrical gremlins so I feel your pain.

Did this issue happen right after the install of the f/p??. did you replace the internal wire harness??. what brand name f/p did you put in??. :-k

The last time I replaced the fuel pump it came with a replacement wiring harness. The wiring harness had a broken wire in it that I did not find until the job was done. Same symptoms as yours.

I figured it out, its a fuel pump. It failed because somebody severly bent and kinked right (when looking ftom drivers seat) hard line that bolts to the tb.
