I’ve got an 02 with (What I’m told) is a 2’” lift added by PO. everything looks super clean and well maintained. Runs and drives well, but over bumps, or more specifically pot holes, rough terrain etc, sometimes I’ll notice a sort of slight ‘clanking’ coming from the suspension. As if something is slightly loose, but when I inspect it, everything looks good. It’s not super pronounced, and it doesn’t sound structural, so Wondering if maybe it’s just how these things run? A friend said he had a Silverado that did the same thing. That it’s just the result of old rubber etc, and while annoying, not a concern.
Anyone have experience with this? Is it common?
Thanks.
Suspension clanking...
Re: Suspension clanking...
I would probably begin by looking at the exhaust system. If the body has been raised up a couple of inches, that could alter the location of something relative to it's original location. I have not raised mine yet, so I am just guessing.

One thing i have had come loose, after doing an overland vans 4” lift with rancho 5000 shocks, is the upper shock mounting bolts on the rear shocks. It happened once after my first rough road drive and once more 3 years latter. I am not sure why this happend as i got the very tight both times but it doesnt happen often enogh for me to do anything other thank check them periodically.

I too dropped a top shock bolt after a particular stretch of washboard. After a whole Sunday morning spent carefully driving around the nearest town looking for a suitable replacement, I now carry a spare...Snowgeek wrote:One thing i have had come loose, after doing an overland vans 4” lift with rancho 5000 shocks, is the upper shock mounting bolts on the rear shocks. Re: Suspension clanking...
Thats a gresat idea. When those things are loose it sounds like the van is going to fall appart. I just ordered my rancho 9000 for the back end of the van this week (front to follow soon).... that is as good a time as any to grab a spare and put it in the parts bin.
