rear bumper idea.
I was driving down a road today and saw a chevy express with this bumper on it, and I thought wow that would be great on an astro/safari with the step to get stuff off or on the roof rack. So I came home found a picture checked the width of both our vans and the express vans and its les then 2 inches wider then ours. Since I have no clue how to post a picture follow the link to see: https://www.etrailer.com/Bumper/Westin/61001.html

Re: rear bumper idea.
Do you need the lowered step?
Even with a 4" lift and 30"-ish tires, I can generally leg it up onto my stock rear bumper. The next step for me (literally) is up onto my rear cargo rack so I can reach the roof rack...

Re: rear bumper idea.
I found out the silverado bumpers well at least the rear fit much better then the express bumper. To answer your question yeah I have lower back issues from being Army Airborne as well as one bad knee. My van is an 89 RS I am building up a 98 AWD frame as we speak. Goal is to make it so I can drive around my property in New Hampshire. 10.5 acres with a river running through it. Seems many like to build custom bumpers but not everyone can do this so I posted what I found for everyone to see. Mark

If you have a rear hitch you can use something like these

Re: rear bumper idea.
Hi,
Since my spare tire is inside my 2003 Astro, the volume behind the 2" receiver is available to install a hidden or stealth winch. Then cut hole in OEM bumper to mount fairlead.
The Curt C31010 hitch mount winch tray looks like a good fit because it come with no carrying handlers.
4127 for the Curt. It also has 3 holes drilled so there is a choice to get winch positioned properly.
Then I will move my 70 lbs Warn Winch 2from front bumper to rear location.

Hi,
Here is photo showing concept to install hidden winch tray at rear hitch of Astro and use the volume of space where OEM spare tire used to be.
I test fitted a 2" draw bar which can fit into the backside of the OEM hitch.
Then use the Curt C31010 tray.
Then cut hole in bumper skin to mount fairlead plate.

Hi,
There is company in Redding, CA that makes winch ready bumpers for trucks.
I sent them a message asking if they could Fab a rear Astro winch bumper.
