Crank No start Headache

Post by Ash80 »

Hello new Guy here with a real pain in the behind problem on my Mothers Van, Its a 2000 Gmc savana 1500, and this christmas it decided to not start. It has always wanted to crank but never started sounds like something is stopping it from running. It read no codes from the start so i started out changing the fuel filter it did have some dirty gas in there so thought that might be it. No luck, that started a chain reaction into a whole new distributer, spider injectors, and even fuel pump and lots of other parts , still no luck Just kind of here for more idea's or if anyone has had this problem before? Had a guy come over with a better code reader than we had and he did find a P1626 code I have tried to do the key relearn procedures and still no start, at this point i feel like im looking for a needle in a haystack an im in New york city looking for a Hay stack. Any Advice is welcome.
Thanks, Ash

Welcome to the Forum.

Altho' not familiar w/ the Savana / Express models, I still think there are a few details that might help someone w/ more experience, that can help diagnose your situation / that code, etc..

- are/is there more than one engine avail. that year on the 1500 ?
- do you have any of the "Big Three" engine 'tells'.:
Fuel, Spark & Air.
- or are you missing any of the 3 ?

Would asking any of the lot that did the parts exchanging be too forward... ?

Welcome to the forum. The anti-theft system is disabling fuel.

Ya the Van is a 5.7 Vortec, the plugs will spark and the pressure on the fuel rail seem to read right, cleand out the Maf did not even look that bad.

Do I need a specific Scan Tool to do this process with the Passlock or is there a way to do this with a regular "Over the Counter " Scan tool that i have at Home?

As it talks about in the service manual I linked above, the anti-theft system disables the fuel injectors. You will still see fuel pressure in the fuel rail, but without injector pulse, the cylinders are starved and won't fire.

It probably requires a professional level diagnostic tool. Not sure what you mean by 'over the counter', but anything under about $200 likely won't do it. A certified locksmith might be able to help. Before doing that, you can still do all the visual inspection of the wiring as mentioned in the troubleshooting. You can also try a spare key if you have one.
