..to be stranded on the side of the road. At 11:30 pm about 3/4 of the way home from Grumpy's storage location Green's engine died while at interstate speed. Using neutral I was able to restart it a couple times, with it quickly dying again. Let the van coast out on the side of the road, opened my door and cranked the engine. The area of my gas tank remained completely silent. Sigh, looks like I get to swap out another fuel pump.

I know, 'cause I posted when I did mine.
The best part was using buckle straps to lower and raise the tank.

There have be mentions of cutting the floor to gain access when working in the winter months.

I guess there kinda is a bright side. I'm a AAA member so my van is home with no additional expense. Plus, I have Grumpy to fall back on while I complete the repairs.

Ah, but photo's don't always paint the true picture. The tree's shadow is almost perfectly masking the drivers side dent. Check out it's link in my sig for better dent views, plus it's rims are mismatched, and some of the interior panels need repair.

I cut the floor on my parts van to pull the pump out. I wouldn't advise it to anyone unless you are just cutting up a junker or have a really REALLY rough beater.
When this freak'in weather straightens out, I'll post some pics and dimensions of where and how to cut. I decided after cutting the one out of the parts van and dropping the tank on my 4x4, that it is actually easier to drop the tank. I did both on the same day.

Yea, me neither. I looked thru 22 pages of my stuff and did not see the write up.
I must have done in on the old board.

Any way...best I remember.

There is a jam nut between the support straps and the frame rail.
I used my bench grinder and thinned down a cheap open end wrench to fit the gap.

I used 2 of those tie down straps with the cam buckle.
Spaced best I could about 25% in from the ends of the tank.

After slowing letting the metal straps loose I gently let the straps let the tank down a little at a time by releasing the cam.
As it got lowered, I could then undo the lines.
When all clear, then let the tank to the ground.

When installing the tank, I just gently pushed up on the tank then pulled the strap to take up the slack.

Finally got around to dropping the tank. It's sitting on the ground with the fuel lines still hooked up, van is still on its wheels so the lines aren't being pulled. There's a can of something stuffed into the hose that attaches to the filler neck to reduce gas fumes since I left it for the day. I'll get the lines undone, jack up the front right, and pull the tank out from underneath after I get back from the oral surgeon tomorrow. Then to attempt non-destructive disassembly of the fuel pump assembly and start looking for the pump itself.

If you have some help, the fastest way to get the tank back up is with a jack and a piece of plywood under the tank. If you have to do it solo, Waterboy's cam strap method is the best. I've done it both ways, although the last time I couldn't find my tie down straps and had to substitute nylon rope.

Sigh, so much for non-destructive. One of the external tubes broke off while I was disconnecting the hoses. I was able to take the rest apart without destroying it. So I order the complete assembly tomorrow and start hunting for the pump. Gonna try to repair it for a spare maybe.

Yea! Green runs again!

Ordered the Delphi pump from GetGMParts.com on Monday night and it arrived today. Never received a shipping notice, tracking number, or anything like that, which is a little disappointing. Installation went fine, Green started first try, and I took it out for a thirty minute drive.

Just have to get my radio presets reprogrammed.
