Fog light problems

Post by Kidhauler »

So here is the deal. I bought a 91 astro and it has the factory fog lights. However they are broken. So I put in a set of aftermarket lights but when I turned them on they blew a fuse or relay somewhere. I have pulled every fuse in the panel and none are broken. When I turn the fog light switch on I can here a click behind the head light switch but I get no power at the lights. Does anyone know if there is a relay or hidden fuse behind the dash by the head light switch?? Any other ideas???? I ran out of light and paitence tonight so it will have to sit till Wed or Thursday to have another look at under the dash.

I don't have the factory fogs Kevin, but if you want the best set up then why not hook your new fogs up to a relay using a decent gauge wire ( 10ga ) would do nice, run that to a standard Bosch auto relay, run somemore 10ga ( fused ) over to your + batt, and then hook up the OEM fog light wire to the new relay to fire your new fogs. This way you'll get much better juice to your new lights and can still retain the OEM setup for firing them.

Yeah I will probably have to do it this way. The lights came with a wiring harness and a relay but I was trying to do it the easy way since it has the factory lighting harness in there. I found where the lights power wire comes out of the firewall so I am going to hook the wires up from there and pull all the factory wires out in the front of the van. Now I still have the problem of no power to the switch but if I can't find the fuse or what ever blew I will have to run new wires to the switch.

I like my van (this is the third one) but who ever wired these vans should be taken into the street and shot!!! Relays everywhere, hidden fuses small qauge wire so it barley handles the load. Why can't they do a decent tidy job of the electrical. I sold my first van because the wiring was so bad it couldn't be repaired everything just slowly stopped working. I really don't want this van to get that way. ](*,)
