rattle or grinding noise

I have 98 astro and at start up a rattle or grinding noise seems to come from near the cat . when i hit the cat with my hand I hear something moving inside . Is this broke or just a nusince? My wife is complaining. gas milage is still good at 20mpgs .

The element inside the cat has come lose. The only remedy that I know of is to replace the cat. My '96 did the same thing. The rattle was very annoying. $\:D/$

I know this is very late to update, but I had a new Emco Cat installed for $180 and it solved the problem. When we took the old one off and shook it rattled.
