The HUGE paint scratch story

Post by reaper »

So here we go on another reaper adventure..... :yikes:
Starts out by me pruning some bushes, garble, bramble & all that crap.
I leave it in small piles partially on my driveway,so instead of cleaning it up
at that moment,I had to rush out to make a appointment.

So Hop in my van,
sam I am I am,green eggs n ham,Back out of the driveway as usuall & I remember to
stay a bit to the right to miss the bramble, cramble piles,so im just about out & I
hear that typical "too late now youv'e scratched the paint dummy" sound. So I
stop, get out & have a look......I won't re-itterate the words coming out of my mouth
at that time :yellin:

This bush (I dont even know what it's called,But it will be called "pulled out roots & all
by tractor bush),Had these killer twig style limbs,So ofcourse I start beatin' on the Bush
like an idiot, snapped off the twigs that scratched the van, then litterally jump on the bush
like Im in some WWF wrestling match,The neighbor is lookin' & all :peep:

Anyways I go do my buisness & come back later & give the van a wash & Inspect
the scratch further,Ahhhhh What an eyesore!,So Out comes the cut polisher
using a wool pad using 3M compound & I gently go over the whole line/area,
wipe off the excess,Then hit it again using a foam pad using 3M finish.

The scratch is gone,Just like that bush.So there's that story.
Here's a few pics,I added arrows to show where the scratch was, hard to see with the reflection & it was much worse than it looks. The first 3 pics are scratch pics,
The last 3 are polished out pics.

Yeah, no kidding. Where Reaper buffed out the scratch looks better than the rest of the paint. Check the reflections in the photos prior to the last.

Way to go numb nuts!!! Well that paint was what nearly 6 months old so its about time you put a mark or two in it. I think Rocke had it painted just a few weeks before you bought it. Glad you managed to polish it out. Rocke got some scratch polish at Walmart of all places and it did a wicked job on his ridgeline.

Man,,that's a killer scratch for sure. Did you sleep that night or not. Now I know why Darren and I still run primer. I'm not sure I could have delt with that myself.
One thing that will help is the tinted Turtle Wax. Comes in white, blue, red and black I think. Has paint pigment in the wax and does a pretty good job of hiding these things. Put it on the scratch heavy and let it sit for a few minutes, then buff it off. May have to re-apply but it works.

my cousin is a autobody man and just hates that colour wax. You have to be carefull that it doesn't have silicone in it. He says that if you ever have to paint the car and it has that wax on it he has had to sand it down to bare metal and then chemicaly treat the metal to get the paint to stick without going fish eye or other problems.
