96 Safari Engine harness pinout info??

Post by tawd77 »

I have a 96 Safari 2wd that I am installing an LT1/T56 engine/trans into. The factory vortec V6 engine harness plugs into the firewall, and two two smaller connections by the battery. I need a "Pinout" on the firewall bulkhead, and the two smaller connectors so I can start tapping in the LT1 harness. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks

www.lt1swap.com

There are some small differences, but for the most part the 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7 Vortec harnesses are fairly close to the same.

Adapting the LT1 harness shouldn't be too terrible, what year is your LT1? I would just add the injector wires to your vans harness and change the pin outs as needed at the PCM. The plugs at the firewall should be fine as is. The only change should be between the PCM and engine, I could be wrong, though.

Brendan at LT1swap.com will help you with it if you email him. He's helping me with my Vortec 5.7 swap.

Sounds really cool, what are you doing for a clutch pedal?

I hope I am steering you correctly here, I have a 1999 and I'm fairly sure that the 1996 is the same. I'm secretly swapping a 1999 Vortec 5.7 into it, my wife thinks I just changing the v6 for another one. She's getting suspicious of all the UPS packages, lol.

I also have a 1989 that I am putting a manual trans in. I hung the clutch pedal last week.

I really want to see how you're doing the clutch pedal, at some point down the road, I'd like to put a 5 speed in the 99. Please get some pics, we would all love to see them.

On another note, I have a 1994 LT1 in a 1985 Monte Carlo that I need to finish at some point. Wiring and plumbing nightmare, the van will be easy by comparison.

All of my projects have been on hold as I work on my 1000 sq' house addition.
