Project Fat Huh

Post by sunset77 »

Well as time has gone on I have done a few things that are out of the norm. So I thought I would share my build with you on Pro streeting your astro.

The first big step is cutting the floor out of the Van This van has under 900 miles on it at the time.

Next cutting the fender walls out.

Then you will need to cut the floor and frame rails out of the Van.

Set the wheels in place to get an idea of where the new frame rails will need to set and how much you will need to narrow the rear end.

Image

Set up a jeg for the rails if you want to be low we put about a 13 inch notch in the rails. Tack into place and finish welding the notch and frame rail together.

I willhave to finish up i a while.

What kind of power are you looking to make? Just wondering due to the grey case third member.

I'm looking at a 383 in these pics I have went to a different rear end and changed the 4 link. Because the set up was not right. The new set up is a Tech 9 with 4-11s. I'm looking for the up dated pics to post.

screw that 383 , you need a BB in there , maybe a 572 !!!!!with your skills i see no problem in fitting it .
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

Sick! No other word for it. What I like about this ride is that it's got a rear suspension, unlike the last project of this magnitude.
I agree on the 572, by the way. That or a nitroused & blown small block. It's just so much easier going with a 572, though...

Go ahead and stuff in a 572 or blown or gassed or ...
It is obvious that you are not afraid of using metal cutting tools :D

Earlier I had mentioned that the set up we used the 4 link was not right it caused the van to Dog Walk so here is the only picture I could find of the new set-up and the fuel tank If I find more I will post.
