body bushing problem
I just got done putting another 4.3l in my 92 safari rwd van . I also rebuilt the sub frame with all new parts. The problem is when I put the sub frame back into the van I used the best body bushings from both parts van an mine. now when I use the lift to lift the van the sub frame will hang down about a 1/2 " creating a gap between the body an the sub frame. Did I miss something ? All body bolts are torqued to specs . I noticed that the lower bushing is just rubber with a washer at the bottom with the bolt . looks like there would be no support an would collapse under load . Any help would greatly appreciated .

the top rubber mount sits higher than the subframe, if you have a local gm dealer ask for
TM09-001 which is the blow-up diagram, or i could send it to you, somehow......

Re: body bushing problem
Thank you for the response . There was a top mount enclose by metal,The body bolt with big washer and the lower rubber mount with a metal ring on top. When I tighten up the bolts the lower rubber bushing did squish up a little . I know I will take some pics this weekend an post them . I just can't believe the sub frame is suppose to move that much after everything is tight . Brokenwrench you could send it to akforceten@yahoo.com . Again thank you for the responses

Re: body bushing problem
I "thought" there where different lengths of bolts mixed in with the six of them.Could it be you have a long one in one of the short locations so you torquing the bolt up against the bolt's shoulder and not tightening down on the sub frame??. :-k

Re: body bushing problem
Hmmmm, My subframe mounts sit up about 1/2 an inch higher than the subframe.
The subframe is not supposed to touch the body, that would defeat the purpose...
there should be a gap about 1/2 inch. I can get my fingers in between.
The body should rest squarely on the 6 body mount bushings, which should sit about 1/2 an inch higher that the actual subframe....
The bolts should be tight, and should all be the same length. the 2 centre bolts are wider than the 4 outer end bolts.

It's like the bushing is coming out of the sub frame a 1/2"

four bolts are M12 X 1.75 X 96 mm1Gary wrote:I "thought" there where different lengths of bolts mixed in with the six of them.Could it be you have a long one in one of the short locations so you torquing the bolt up against the bolt's shoulder and not tightening down on the sub frame??. :-k
two bolts are M14 X 2 X 102 mm
simply;
the 14 mm bolts will not thread in the 12 mm thread
the 12 mm bolts will not catch thread in the 14 mm thread.

Re: body bushing problem
Sounds like you have the bottom assembly in wrong somehow if it isnt holding the whole thing from rising up through the frame.
At least you wont have to jack it up to fix it if thats the case....
