I have been warned...
I was coming across town when I noticed a traffic stop up ahead. I was pretty confident as I approached, I figured all was good, no need to worry. Turned out that when my dad went and renewed the insurance, he never got the new verifications. Mine was expired, and I didn't even know it. The officer was nice enough to only give me a warning. He also commented on my cracked windshield... That's not on the warning. He just suggested we fix it. I've been wanting to get that fixed for ages, but I just don't have the money for one.

Re: I have been warned...
A friend of mine just got caught without insurance. He recently moved, and didn't receive the renewal reminder in the mail, so of course he forgot. Anyway, he was fined $600! The female officer told him to dispute the charge, and that the judge should reduce it to half. The police cruisers here have cameras and computers that scan license plates and automatically alert the officer when a vehicle is uninsured. Ouch.

If the cop let him or her drive away, he or she got off extremely luckytimelessbeing wrote:A friend of mine just got caught without insurance. That cop could be harshly reprimanded for it.
An un-insured vehicle is to be towed away on the spot, and NOT driven anywhere.
If that uninsured vehicle got into a fatality causing accident on the way home, there would some huge legal actions against the constable.
I'm just very very surprised at what you say happened.

I forgot to mention they towed his vehicle also. But they were nice enough to take it to his home instead of the impound lot.

It's very difficult for me to get pictures uploaded... I have to take them to the library on a thumb drive, and I don't get to do that very often because of the limited time there.astroturf wrote:Man... This is Two Weeks old.

Re: I have been warned...
WOW never heard of that before. I was pinched twice in the last 10 years. Both times I was pulled over for no seatbelt and both times the insurance slip in the van was recently expired. The first time I was let off with a warning and given 24hrs to produce a valid slip, the second time I got a $120 fine on the spot ( for no insurance and $ 200 no seatbelt ticket ) but still let go. I believe that they can now check the policy number roadside to show if the insurance is actually valid.doyoulikeithere wrote:If the cop let him or her drive away, he or she got off extremely luckytimelessbeing wrote:A friend of mine just got caught without insurance. I have never heard of police allowing an un insured vehicle drive on public streets.

Was wrong witchu foo?
no insurance = no driving privileges = I don't have to worry about you wrecking my car and not paying for it
Be a responsible driver or don't drive. I worked at 16 to pay for my gas and insurance while in school. Mom split and Dad was in prison. I'm sure your situation must be slightly better than that.

Good.
Funny insurance company where you pay and they don't give you verification right then and there whether it be they hand it to you or you print it out.
Lucky indeed.
