Ideas to fix what plastic pins attach to for door panels
Ideas to fix what plastic pins attach to for door panels
My driver and passenger doors has been swinging free since i bought the van and assumed i just needed new pins to hold panel to door. Turns out its what the pins attach to on the panel that broke, about 12 of them, thanks previous owner. Anyone have any creative ideas, washers would probably be ideal sizer wise but i dont know how to attach anything to the broken plastic. Its a pretty clean break on each one so should line up fine. Thanks

I use super glue to hold the pieces together and then I back that up with JB Weld. Cleaning the pieces with acetone helps. Works pretty good most of the time.

not the most fashionable , but you know me, mister...
"it aint the fashion but the function thats important"
F those stupid fing plastic POS things !!
I used about 4 self tapping sheet metal screws on the panel for the slider door.
Just screwd the panel to the door !

I agree with DYLIT, I anchored the bottom corners of the door panels with long screws...holds everything tight and the carpet pretty much hides the screw heads.

Radio Shack has some super velcro used to hold speaker covers in place. They should work here, too.

Re: Ideas to fix what plastic pins attach to for door panels
The 'Chaby' parts departments say many of the little plastic retainers are no longer available.
I have run afoul of many times with older GM vehicles.
I just decided to work on an electric passenger side mirror on my '98.
The triangular trim piece on the inside of the door, which covers the mirror mounting hardware, is retained by a single plastic push-in device. It appears that it is not designed to be used more than once, because the long pin part snaps off when one tries to remove the trim panel. The dealership tells me that retainer was sold as part of the trim panel, and not old separately; and of course not available now, or for the last several years.
That has to be B.S. that it was sold only with the trim piece. The white plastic retainer clip just snaps into a slot in the trim piece.
Anyway, I think I have found the exact part on E-bay, listed for larger GM trucks. Check out:

The seller 'Grandpas..." seems to have a lot of plastic fasteners that look pretty familiar from GM vehicles, such as those that retain the upholstered panels on the rear doors, and more for other makes.
Good luck!
