Hey check your email ... ;p I am suppose to be worknig right now but instead I am on the warn and arb site looking at recovery items.

You need to work on thinking about getting front tow hooks in ASAP. The rear you can do with just a cheap hitch D-shackle <- click it ... and then get 1 or 2 tow straps then a few D-shackles to hitch them up. If you need something for yourself maybe a hand winch lol - but the above oh plus a few traction matts (aka carpet) should set you up for the expedition end this month. Or did they say you need a mounted winch!?!? >.<
BTW you get your CB yet? I still have not mounted mine.

Oh ... Jimmy would kill you for calling his Jimmy a Jeep >.< Yes, my friend's name is Jimmy and he drives a Jimmy. Makes me wonder what he will call his first born.

Thanks to all for the great photos and text. What a neat trip.
It is kinda fun off roading solo, but like you say wow don't get hurt or stuck. let someone know where you are going too.
My 2003 AWD has BFG TA KO's 225/70-16 's but stock axles with 3.42 ratio. which I had 3.73 and heck even a 2 speed transfer case....I have air shocks in rear a maybe a bit of torsion bar lift in front.

I too and thinking of the 2 inch Overland body lift and bumper relocator. I better order it soon .

I did install the recovey hooks on front by mounting plate to cross member, I have rear 2 inch hitch for D shackle,
I carry carpet strips, 30 ft recovery strap and a high power air compressor with the thought of airing down from 35 psi to about 25 for better grip...and the fix a flat can of spray, I am planning on getting a 48 inch made in USA High lift jack.
I also carry a 3/4 length shovel and a 3/4 length axe.
plus at least 2 gallons of water and a small propane stove.

The Astro is fun on dirt roads as long as the down hill parts are not too steep,,,,i need to put the trans in 1 st gear to get any compression braking...

I hope to explore Northern California this spring and summer.

for my sleeping platform, fold down the front bench seat and I have a 36 inch x 36 inch plywood table that is same vertical height as the folded bench seat.

I also added a DIY light bar to front bumper for fog lights and driving lights.

great pictures, I had the same thing in mind when I bought the 94 awd, to convert it into a mini rv of sorts, do a small lift, for a little more clearance and use it to go prospecting with..... the full sized rv I have is a little fuel thirsty, and bigger than I need for myself and maybe one other person....

envious of your close access to such places, in the mid west.... not that interesting....

been here for 48 years, been ready to move for over 20 years........
