Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

Thanks for the codes timelessbeing. I wasn't able to find anything in the glove box denoting if it was a Eaton Gov-Loc, but it is stamped GT 4 (3.73) The currant tire size is 215/75/R15s. I wouldn't think going to a 30 inch tire would change the mileage enough to warrant a gear change. I seem to rem...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

Hey Gary Hadn't really thought about tire size yet, but I don't think I'll go over 30 " A/Ts. As it is, I only get about 13mpg around town and expect a slight loss when I change tire size. I've considered different gearing in the rear end, but for as little as I plan on driving it, I don't thin...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

Hi Joe Your right, the members on this forum have been a tremendous help and I don't think I would attempt the lift without there knowledge. I can pick up used S-10 3/1 spring pack from local wreckers for $45.00 each and lift spacers from Summit Racing. I have a Fastenal store right across the stree...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

I know what you mean Gary. I'm 65 and it can be a pain in the arse climbing into the van at stock height, especially if I forget to leave the steering column in the up position. Nevertheless, my inner child says go for the lift. I'll probably put a small step up on each side when project is complete...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

1Gary, your correct regarding parts made in China. Here's an informative read for those interested. http://www.smartmoney.com/spend/autos/are-chinese-car-parts-safe/ . Will I install Dorman torsion bars if and when mine fail? Probably will as I'm never flush with money. I figure they can't be any wo...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

Hey, thanks timelessbeing! I feel better about my self already. I'll be strutting my stuff in no time. I think your right, I'm only going to tighten the torsion bars enough to get me to three inch's in the front ( with pucks ). I was concerned though because I have the older, long torsion bars and d...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

I think the pipe lift would really be over kill for my purpose. I mainly plan on using the van for camping and going on fire break roads in my area, no rock climbing. My friends give me a bad time for driving a soccer mobile, so I figure I would man it up with a lift. I know every one hates the crap...

Re: Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

Thank you timelessbeing for your reply. I have the same concerns as you, but never having done a lift before, was hoping there would be enough slack in the components you mentioned to go 1 inch taller on the body spacers to save the cost of new torsion bars. I see most of the auto part retailers are...

Summit Racing: 3x3 body spacers

Just completed a paint job on my 95 Astro and getting ready to do a lift this month. I want to keep it as simple as possible and will source out most of the parts. 4\1 S-10 leaf springs from Suspension Kings, and body lift spacers from Summit Racing. I was wondering if anyone has used the 3x3 inch b...

Re: Leaf springs

Thanks everyone! Lots of great ideas & info to help me make a decision. With 157000 miles, I think my van will be getting new springs. I like the fact that Overland has done all the engineering and put together a complete package with instructions, but , it will cost over $1000.00 by the time I ...

Leaf springs

I'm looking to do a 4 inch lift on my late 95' in the near future. My van has got the stock steel springs rather than the mono springs and I will probably buy from Overland. My question is rather or not Overland's HD springs provide more lift than my stock springs will. It seems there is a number of...

Re: Looking for chrome hubs

Right on Mark. I've been doing my own body work and paint for many years and have saved thousands by doing so. The painting is the easy part, it's the prep work I hate. Right now I'm just rubbing out the old finish with a power buffer for a better shine and will re-paint when time permits.

Re: Looking for chrome hubs

After I bought the van, I was considering giving it a new paint job, as I'm not fond of the dark met. maroon, but the thought of painting the door jambs and engine compartment doesn't thrill me, so I'm going to do spot repairs on the small dents and re- clear coat the whole thing. That being said, I...

Re: Looking for chrome hubs

Thanks for the offer akforceten. I see the ones on your van look flat on top. The ones I'm looking for have more of a bullet shape. I'll head down to the Pick & Puke this weekend and see what I can dig up... ( What do you have in mind for yours ? )
